Presentation: | IBM i - it's not just AS/400 |
True or False: The IBM i operating system is just the AS/400 all over again. False! The AS/400 provided a solid foundation, but it has evolved over the years into the entirely new technology that we call IBM i. It now has been IBM i longer than the old AS/400 name.
The 2022 chapter in our journey from AS/400 to IBM i includes new cloud offerings, new Technology Refreshes, new 7.5 OS level, new i Navigator interface, new customers, and a strong roadmap. How do these additions make the platform more powerful?
During this session, IBM i CTO & Chief Architect/IBM Distinguished Engineer Steve Will joins IBM Power Champion Tom Huntington to share a unique perspective on the direction of this platform, including:
Steve Will is the IBM i CTO and Chief Architect at IBM, as well as an IBM Distinguished Engineer. He's an award-winning speaker, author of a top IBM i blog, and one of the most sought-after voices at customer briefings and events. Steve has worked on IBM i and its predecessors since before the creation of the AS/400.
Tom Huntington is Executive Vice President of Technical Solutions at Fortra, and has been with the company for nearly 30 years. He helps manage the worldwide Fortra software engineer team that works to integrate and promote our automation and security solutions to partners and customers around the globe. Tom often speaks on enterprise scheduling, security, automation topics, IBM i technology, and the Fortra products, and hosts technical presentations on a variety of automation topics. He is the author of the HelpSystems IBM i Marketplace Survey and has written articles on automated operations, security, cloud computing, and business intelligence for leading trade journals and newsletters. He was named an IBM Champion in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 for over three decades of advocation and thought leadership on the IBM i platform.
