Introducing Object Level Security

Abstract

We've all heard the names of the moving components: private, *PUBLIC, authorization lists and adoption; but it's a rarity to find people that truly understand the full and accurate purpose of these elements and how to combine them into a security plan. This session provides valuable insight to introduce you to the pro's and con's of this 'gold standard' in IBM i security.

This session will define key security concepts that comprise Object Level Security along with a reveal of a few of its limitations. Understand how OLS complements other security initiatives and discover that OLS is far less scary than you may have seen in the movies. About the Presenter

Robin Tatam joined HelpSystems’ in 2009 after a distinguished midrange development and consulting career. Mr. Tatam’s passion for IBM i security and compliance has resulted in him becoming one of the top IBM i security experts in the world. Robin is an award-winning speaker, a subject-matter-expert (SME) and inductee in COMMON's "Speaker Hall of Fame," and a popular guest presenter at security events around the world. Mr. Tatam co-authored the IBM Redbook on IBM i data encryption and he earned a seat on the “Panel of Experts” at the iNSIGHT Security Conference in Las Vegas. Published in numerous magazines—including full-feature technical articles in Midrange Computing and MC Press—he's the author of dozens of IBM i security articles and white papers, including the popular “State of IBM i Security” study. Robin has been interviewed on IBM i security trends by ComputerWorld, Germany’s DV Dialog magazine, and the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan. He was also recognized on IT Jungle's list of "Top 10 Best IBM i Blogs." Mr. Tatam’s technical career has culminated in dozens of professional certifications, including ISACA’s Certified Information Security Manager (CISM). He has been honored by IBM as a four-time IBM Champion, a testament to his professional and personal investment in security and his ongoing evangelism of the IBM i operating system.
