1DevDay Detroit 2010

The goal of 1DevDay is to unite the Metro Detroit Software Development community for one day of knowledge sharing, learning and exploration. This event is a grassroots undertaking to bring an affordable, accessible, tech conference to the Metro Detroit area. On Saturday October 23rd, 2010 software developers and architects, IT Professionals and technologists from across the Metro Detroit area will gather to meet, learn, teach and share knowledge at 1DevDay.

To accommodate the number of attendees and sessions, Microsoft is donating space at their offices in Southfield. We have reserved four large conference rooms for sessions and two rooms for mingling and open spaces. All of this on their 19th floor.

The Early Bird price of $30, ends on September 1st when the price will increase to $40.

This conference is targeted at and attended by software developers and architects. The ticket price is kept as affordable as possible, so developers at all levels can attend. The event is held on a Saturday, so developers do not have to burn vacation time to attend.

About William A. Hansen:

Dr. Hansen is a co-founder of Manta Technologies Inc., a company that specializes in interactive training for IBM i operators, programmers, system administrators, and users. Bill has been developing multimedia training for IBM systems since the early 70s. As the Operating Systems Product Manager for Deltak and the President of Hansen Training Systems, he has developed over 300 courses on topics ranging from word processing to MVS Resource Management. At Manta, he is responsible for operations, system administration, and ebusiness courses. He also developed Manta's browser-based CBT/WBT authoring system that can simulate both 5250 and GUI screens. Bill holds a B.S. from the Illinois Institute of Technology, as well as a M.S. and Ph.D. from Northwestern University. His Ph.D. thesis, `A Computer Calculation of the Homology of the Lambda Algebra', was one of the first attempts to use a computer to solve a problem in algebraic topology.

Do you have a Requirement that you would like to see IBM implement on the System i? COMMON solicits Requirements from the System i community and submits these to IBM three or four times each year. You may even comment upon Requirements that others have entered.

Dear Group Members:

Welcome back. We hope you enjoyed summer. We have an exciting SEMIUG year planned for 2010/2011. Thank you to board members (Michael Balbaugh, Paul Thieme, Mike Desoff, Joy Chen, Gerry Abela, Charles Nalbandian and Amanda Walsh) for your time and effort in helping plan and organize events for SEMIUG members. Thank you also to Dale Thieme for your awesome and prompt efforts to keep our site looking great and providing information in a timely manner. We are very excited about the new look.

We are starting the year off with an exciting meeting. You have already heard all of the buzz about RPG Open Access. September's meeting allows a great opportunity to begin to learn more about the topic and how you might make use of Open Access at your organization. Be sure to join us on September 21st. You may join us on site or join in remotely.

MITEC

MITEC 2010 was a great success. The new venue "Schoolcraft College Vistatech Center" was well received. The facility was well suited to our event. It was truly a power packed day of education enjoyed by all. Plenty of current topics and sessions to choose from(including a PHP "hands on" lab) with an all star line up of presenters. The culinary institute provided food for the event and many expressed how great the food was. We were very pleased to again have AIX included at the event. The vendors were very generous this year with raffle items including 2011 MITEC conference registrations, 2 GPS devices, an iPad and a digital camcorder and much more. A great thanks to our presenters, vendors, MITEC staff and Vistatech staff.

Some of the feedback received included:

"I enjoyed the PHP sessions and getting to see people I have not seen for years" "I had a great time and the food was great too." "Just wanted you to know that MiTec was excellent (Even if I didn't win the iPad)." "Just wanted to let you know that the MiTec conference keeps on getting better!
