From the President
Fall is upon us and we are fortunate to have a very exciting meeting planned for November. Jessie Gorzinski from the IBM Development labs in Rochester presenting IBM I meets IoT. We’ve been introduced to Open Source and discussed how IBM has embraced and encouraged the use of Open Source tools. This presentation helps take us to the next phase and discuss tools that you can include within your toolkit to solve business needs. The presentation will include some demos of using on IBM i as well as using it for home automation. We have started plans for MITEC 2020 and have dates. Mark your calendar for Monday June 22nd and Tuesday June 23rd. It seemed to work out quite well having it a little later in June so that we miss other events going on during that timeframe. We’re working on the agenda and are already very excited about what will be offered during the event. If you have topics/presenters or content that you are interested in seeing at MITEC 2020 don’t hesitate to share, you may do so by contacting Laura at firstname.lastname@example.org. With all of the big announcements in the last OS release and all of the exciting technology changes going on, we are sure to have a very exciting MITEC 2020. We will again feature students at the event and include a vendor expo. The event will be held at Schoolcraft College Vistatech Center located in Livonia Michigan. Workshops will be held on Monday and the conference on Tuesday. MITEC 2019 featured many students. The students are able to participate through sponsorships. We want to Thank those that stepped forward to sponsor students at MITEC 2019.
A New Age In Power
We are very pleased to have many success stories connecting students to potential employers through MITEC. It is a win for everyone. We are able to engage and connect the next generation of resource with our local community through MITEC. Community benefits on being able to connect with students and local colleges/schools. MITEC benefits through adding students to our community and it always results in a wonderful extra buzz at the event. The students appreciate the experience and opportunity. Following is a Thank You card signed by the students and provided to SEMIUG for sponsorship along with a picture of some of the students that participated at the event.

It’s that time of year again. We again offer the same low dues for membership. Dues are paid annually and also help us continue to provide local colleagues current education and much more. Dues are $50.00 per individual and $100.00 for an organization membership. To pay your dues you will find payment information at the bottom of the membership tab.
We will be breaking for the Christmas holiday in December and our next regular meeting will be held in January.
There is a lot we have to be Thankful for. Lots of exciting changes on the platform and exciting technology trends. SEMIUG will continue to strive to bring current education and an opportunity for community members to learn and connect with others. We thank the board members for volunteering and help continue efforts through SEMIUG. We hope that we see you participate at an upcoming event.
